Liposuction

What is Face & Neck Liposuction?

Face & Neck Liposuction surgery is a common cosmetic procedure which involves the removal
of fat from specific areas in order to slim and reshape the features of the face and neck.
Through a tiny incision, a narrow tube known as a cannula is inserted beneath the skin and
used to safely remove fat from the body by suction. Liposuction is not intended as an alternative
to other weight loss methods such as diet or exercise but is often performed to remove fat which
has not responded to weight loss in order to create an appearance which is more desirable to
the patient.

How do you prepare for Face & Neck Liposuction?

Prior to the procedure, an initial consultation will be required to discuss your desired outcome
and expectations for treatment, as well as any medical history which may be relevant to the
procedure. Dr. Jamali sees patients from all over the world and can do a brief initial consultation
remotely if needed, but a full in-office consultation is required before undergoing surgery.

Anyone undergoing cosmetic surgery must be in good health. You may also be asked to change
or refrain from taking certain medications prior to the procedure, as they may negatively interact
with anesthesia. Liposuction is an outpatient procedure, and you should bring someone with you
to drive you home the day of surgery.

Why is Face & Neck Liposuction performed?

Liposuction of the face and neck is performed in order to sculpt and reshape the appearance of
the face and neck. It can be done to remove a double chin, change the contour of the jawline, or
create a slimmer, more youthful facial appearance. Liposuction may be performed in
combination with another cosmetic procedure such as a rhinoplasty or chin implant surgery.

What can you expect during Face & Neck Liposuction?

Prior to liposuction, your doctor will apply either local or general anesthesia to ensure that you
do not feel anything during surgery. They will then make a very small incision – ⅛” or less –
through which the cannula is inserted. This instrument is used to very carefully break up and
remove fat from specific areas to reshape your face and/or neck to the desired effect.
Depending on the patient, this typically takes between one and two hours.

What is the followup and recovery like for Face & Neck
Liposuction?

Following a brief observation period, you will be able to return home on the same day as
liposuction surgery is performed. You should bring someone to drive you home, as you may be
dealing with lingering effects of anesthesia after the procedure. You should generally rest for at
least a few days following face or neck liposuction, after which any residual pain should have
greatly subsided. It is normal to experience some swelling, which should begin to go down after
a week or so. After about two weeks you should be able to see the full results of your surgery.

What are the potential costs for Face & Neck Liposuction?

Face and neck liposuction is not covered by most insurance plans. Costs range depending on
the extent of the operation and should be discussed with your care provider during your
consultation prior to surgery.

What are the potential risks for Face & Neck Liposuction?

Any surgery is accompanied by a very small risk of negative complications, including infection,
nerve damage, or an allergic reaction to the anesthesia being used. There is also a possibility
that you will not be happy with your appearance following surgery and will require revision
surgery to correct the issue.

Are there related treatments to Face & Neck Liposuction?

Dr. Jamali also offers FaceTite and Morpheus8, two modern non-surgical procedures which
reshapes and de-ages parts of the face and neck by stimulating cell activity in the deeper layers
of the skin. Liposuction may also be performed in concert with other cosmetic procedures such
as rhinoplasty, jaw surgery, or chin implant surgery.
