Prior to getting a consult with Dr. Jamali, I saw a few other plastic surgeons in the area and they all recommended a chin implant. It wasn't until I did more research on RealfSelf that I found there was another procedure called a sliding genioplasty/chin surgery. Although it took longer to recover, I decided to get a sliding genioplasty over a chin implant since I didn't want something foreign in my body. Plus, I think it'll look more natural. After I made up my mind about getting the procedure, I researched different doctors in NYC that performed it. I always went back to Dr. Jamali because of all the positive reviews and I'm so glad I did because he really is the best. The whole experience has been very good. Dr. Jamali has a very calm and friendly bedside manner. On the first consultation with him, he recommended jaw surgery which would benefit my case the most, but it would take longer to recover and would cost a lot more. I opted for the sliding genioplasty instead. Writing this review now, it has been 2.5 weeks since I had the surgery and I'm recovering very well. The swelling has mostly gone down and I can chew and eat almost anything now. Although I do believe jaw surgery would give me a more drastic change, I don't regret having the sliding genioplasty done at all since there is also a very noticeable change. I just want to thank Dr. Jamali and his AMAZING staff at the office. Everyone was so friendly that it really made this whole experience easier. I knew I would be in good hands after the first consultation. If you're deciding between a chin implant or a sliding genioplasty, I honestly think you should go with the sliding genioplasty. It's more natural since it's your own chin bone that they're using and you don't have to worry about infection or the implant ever moving. I did a ton of research before going through with this and Dr. Jamali really is the best. You really won't regret it. - Side Notes - - I was on a liquid diet for the first 10 days. It sucks but you'll lose some weight. I lost around 10 lbs. - For the first week, my face/neck was swollen. Swelling was the worst on the 2nd and 3rd day. My neck and chest was also bruised. 2.5 weeks later, there's still some slight bruising left on my chest. - Bottom teeth and lip will be numb for about 2 weeks but it slowly gets better. When you talk, it'll sound like you're wearing a retainer/mouth guard or something along the lines of having a lisp. - If you're thinking of how many days off you need to take in order to recover, I think the fastest would probably be 10 days. 14+ days would be ideal and anything less than a week isn't good since there's still some slight swelling/bruising and you'll be talking funny.
Dr. Jamali exemplifies the meaning of being a doctor - caring and friendly bedside manner, extremely responsive to all of my questions, and overall very genuine about my care. I seeked his help for my small jaw, and he didn’t use computer imaging but rather sketched over my x-ray. This made me feel very comfortable because I knew the surgery would be more authentic to the shape of my face. I look forward to going through the surgery with Dr. Jamali. His staff was also very approachable and they made me feel very comfortable.
It was said that I needed jaw surgery and that the sliding genioplasty would improve my profile but not completely. Here are the drawings over the xrays. Note it says 7mm on the sketch but it was actually advanced 8mm. Though it hasn't given me an ideal profile it has definitely improved.
I've always had hang ups about my weak receding chin and was considering getting an implant. After doing the research I realized that a sliding genioplasty, although more difficult to recover from, is best for a more natural and long lasting change, not to mention having your actual bone kept as your chin and not a yucky synthetic implant. Also, in my case, vertical height was an issue that an implant wouldn't have corrected naturally.
I consulted Dr. Jamali and he was very good at listening to all my concerns and what I wanted to acheive aesthetically. His planning is very thorough and technical and he makes sure to give you a realistic perspective on what can be accomplished. His staff are very professional, kind and courteous and really make you feel like your'e in good hands.
The surgery was over before I even knew it. I woke up puffy and swollen but it wasn't even that bad. Dr. Jamali has a very gentle approach and you really feel it with the fast recovery. The first few days were tough especially when eating and speaking. By the seventh day most of the swelling had subsided and I was talking and eating more easily. Its been 11 days now post op and the only real side effects i still have is tightness in my lower teeth and a bit of numbness in my lower lip.....and my chin keeps looking better and better! Thank you Dr. Jamali (and Vicky and Nina!) , I would definitely do this again.
Hello! I just want to thank Dr. Jamali for doing a beautiful job on my sliding genioplasty. He is a soft spoken, knowledgeable, and artfully skilled surgeon. My surgical history is a bit complicated (two previous chin surgeries). So, needless to say, Dr. Jamali had his work cut out for him. We discussed back and forth what I needed. I like that he respected my opinions but still had his own. Once we figured out the best plan of action, I scheduled my appointment and the staff was very helpful in getting me the appointment I needed in order to fit my busy schedule. Just a small point: I don't like his location. But don't let that scare you off. The office is modest & sufficient. The operating room is accredited. He works with one anesthesiologist whom he trusts. Dr. Jamali did a beautiful job restoring my chin. It is literally perfect. I wouldn't want it even a millimeter different. He really hit the nail on the head! Literally perfect in appearance. So I am VERY grateful and I'm so glad I chose him as my surgeon. Thank you!!
I always felt like something was very unbalanced on my face and wasn't sure hat it was. I only liked pictures if I was smiling in it, and I never looked very good with my hair up. When I learned the issue was my weak jaw and chin I got extremely self conscious and it's all I could see, I never even had my hair up in public. After doing some research I found Dr Jamali. He was always very attentive and explained to me how I needed an orthognathic surgery. Unfortunately I can't afford the recovery time so I went the easier camouflage route and had a Genioplasty instead. Dr Jamali drew my face and showed me exactly how he was planning to move the bone forward. Since then I knew I had chosen the right doctor. The surgery was smooth and the first 2 weeks of recovery were the hardest. I had 9mm moved forward. I feel like I hardly had any bruising and healed faster than most reviews I read in forums online. I'm sure it has to do with Dr. Jamali being extremely gentle and careful since his other patients describe the same fast recovery :) I'm incredibly happy with the results. Thank you Dr. Jamali for this life changing surgery.
Dr. Jamali was very helpful and attentive throughout the entire process. He was able to answer any questions I had and inform me of the risks involved, which are minor. He was also very honest about what I could expect from the result, and I never felt like he was trying to sell me on the procedure. Recovery is different for everyone, and I think I had an even easier time with it than average, though on average there is not supposed to be much pain. My swelling was also very minor and mostly healed quite quickly. I have to commend Dr. Jamali on his precision, to which I owe my wonderful results.
I had MMA surgery done by dr. Majid jamali on dec 20th and not even two months I am feeling great. I had a severe case of sleep apnea for over a decade and it only got worse. I had tonsillectomy, deviated septum fixed, turbinate reduction but nothing worked. CPAP was in highest pressure didn't do the job. I was loosing hope and that's when I found out about MMA surgery and the high success rate when it's done by a surgeon with great skill. I went to see many but finally met dr, jamali. Since the day I met him, i knew he is the surgeon who can do it. I absolutely liked his honesty. Now, those of you suffering from sleep apnea, you know how deadly it can be. Don't delay, go to him and let him take a look. Because, from my experience I can tell you, he will tell you adjactly what he can do and will do and what he can't and won't do. It's hard to find a doctor like that these days. Finally, thanks to dr. Jamali and rest of team in his office who made my difficult journey easy and helped me through.
I had met with two other surgeons prior to meeting with Doctor Jamali who were both reputable for their work, however due to cost it was not realistically going to work out. My parents and I researched for a while and immediately were directed to Dr. Jamali. Although it was out of our area, it was clear he was extremely well known for his work. After contacting the office, we learned that he works through his own surgical center, which made the cost fairly affordable. At my first consultation I could tell right away how knowledgeable he was about the sliding genioplasty. He drew a very precise outline from the x-rays he took to show me what I could expect as a result and thoroughly answered all of our questions. This consultation was much more informative than the previous two I had and confirmed that I definitely wanted to follow through with the procedure, and more importantly that Dr. Jamali was the man for the job. The day of my surgery, Dr. Jamali, along with his entire staff made me feel extremely comfortable and relieved any nerves I was experiencing. The procedure went very well and both he and his team were so good about staying in contact with me through my recovery to make sure I was feeling good and answer any follow up questions I had. At my post-op appointment Dr. Jamali was extremely pleased with the result as was I, and I still couldn't believe how much of an improvement it made. I'm so grateful we found Dr. Jamali, he was excellent and so thorough I would highly recommend him to anyone considering this procedure.
Dr. Jamali is a wonderful and talented surgeon and I credit him with how great I'm doing. He removed my wisdom teeth last year, and I was amazed at how fast and efficient he was. No pain and I didn't even have swelling! This year he did my surgery and his skills never cease to amaze me. He has excellent bedside manner and you can tell he truly cares about his patients. He is absolutely wonderful and I highly recommend him!!
